Requirements

State of Florida Clinical Laboratory License (Medical Technologist or Public Health Licensure).
Knowledge of terminology, principles, and techniques used in analysis and testing.
Knowledge of procedures, techniques, and equipment used in laboratory testing and analysis.
Skill in the use of laboratory equipment.
Ability to work independently and to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Knowledge of fluorescent microscopy and rabies testing procedures.

Responsibilities

Perform complex medical laboratory tests for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.
Coordinate workflow and provide technical support in Microbiology, including result review and reporting.
Oversee and perform quality control and quality assurance documentation, including control procedures.
Participate in laboratory proficiency testing and follow BOL/DOH safety guidelines.
Remove brain from animals for rabies testing and examine using fluorescent microscopy and other staining techniques.
Respond to on-call requirements during weekend or holiday hours for rabies testing.
Maintain effective documentation, data records, inventory of supplies, and discard medical waste per biowaste protocol.
