About this role

Under close supervision, performs routine standardized clinical diagnostic tests in a clinical laboratory. This role may require working with infectious agents. The Clinical Lab Scientist - Core Pathology at OU Health is responsible for delivering accurate and reliable test results.

Performs waived and nonwaived laboratory patient testing in a prompt and reliable manner according to established hospital and departmental policies. Receives, sorts, and assesses the acceptability of specimens for testing. Records information in the OUH lab informatics system relative to patient demographics and test results.

Requirements

Associate Degree of Medical Lab Technology (MLT) OR Bachelor’s Degree with 24 semester hours of science courses including 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination.
0-3 years of experience in a clinical or other laboratory setting.
Nationally recognized certification through ASCP, AMT, AABB, or other governing accreditation preferred.
Ability to work with infectious agents and follow all hospital and laboratory safety policies including appropriate use of PPE.
Proficiency in using laboratory informatics systems and electronic medical records for documentation.
Knowledge of quality control procedures, instrument calibration, and maintenance protocols.

Responsibilities

Perform waived and nonwaived laboratory patient testing in a prompt and reliable manner according to established hospital and departmental policies.
Receive, sort, and assess the acceptability of specimens for testing, distributing them to appropriate laboratory sections.
Record information in the OUH lab informatics system relative to patient demographics, specimen collection, and test results.
Prepare chemical solutions and reagent preparations with appropriate labeling.
Perform quality control procedures following authorized laboratory policy.
Operate, calibrate, and maintain instrumentation within scope of training and established protocols.
Call notification values to appropriate clinical staff and document those notifications in the electronic medical record.
Perform proficiency testing according to laboratory and regulatory requirements.
