About this role
Provides administrative support to department or one or more physicians. Requires intermediate knowledge of medical terminology and insurance information. This role involves performing routine tasks such as typing correspondence and scheduling patient appointments for a limited number of physicians. Additionally, the position may utilize the electronic system as documented in department or FPI standard operating procedures.
Greets, screens, and directs patients, visitors, and internal customers while performing medical receptionist duties such as answering telephones, screening calls, and providing information. Prepares and processes correspondence, including medical transcription and dictation, and answers routine medical inquiries by drafting letters. Obtains, verifies, and updates patient information and provides support services to patients, families, and medical staff.
Works alongside physicians and medical staff in a psychiatric clinical setting, supporting both patients and internal customers. May serve as a leader to lower level administrative staff, coordinating tasks and ensuring smooth operations. Requires ability to deal effectively and diplomatically with team members and the public, and utilizes the electronic system as documented in department standard operating procedures.
This role offers the opportunity to take on leadership responsibilities by guiding lower-level administrative staff as needed. Additional duties may be assigned based on departmental needs, allowing for skill expansion. Experience in this position prepares one for advanced administrative roles within a specialized mental health environment.
Requirements
- Minimum of two years of experience in a medical office setting.
- Knowledge of medical terminology required.
- Accurate typing and data entry skills.
- Excellent organization skills.
- Basic knowledge of software used by department.
- Knowledge of general customer service practices.
- Ability to deal effectively and diplomatically with team members and the public.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
