About this role

The Medical Records Clerk serves as the central coordinating link for providing continuity of care in the family practice clinic. This role ensures that complete medical charts are available to all requesting staff, playing a vital part in patient care delivery.

Day to day, the clerk will provide accurate, timely, and complete medical information within the medical record. Responsibilities include retrieving charts, scanning documents, updating patient records, and assisting with record requests to support clinical workflow.

Requirements

  • 6 months clerical and/or receptionist experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • Experience with electronic health records systems
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of patient information
  • Basic computer proficiency including data entry and document scanning

Responsibilities

  • Provide complete medical charts to all requesting staff
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and complete medical information is available within the medical record
  • Retrieve, organize, and file patient medical records in accordance with clinic protocols
  • Scan and index documentation into the electronic health records system
  • Assist clinicians and administrative staff with locating patient records and information
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations
  • Respond to requests for medical records from internal departments and authorized external parties
