About this role

This role performs and reports tests of all complexity levels as defined by CLIA, assisting with routine screening, diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases and injuries for patients of all ages. The position is bonus eligible for external candidates and offers a pay range of $24.31 - $33.68 for MLT and $30.14 - $45.21 for MLS.

Day-to-day duties include problem solving of a complex nature, participating in Quality Assurance and Quality Control monitoring, instrumentation maintenance and troubleshooting, specimen processing, and phlebotomy. MLS-level staff also interpret and correlate test results with disease states and provide technical consultation.

You will join the General Lab team at Essentia Virginia Hospital, working in a collaborative environment that values accuracy and patient care. The schedule involves day/eve/night rotation with variable start and end times, including weekends and holidays, but no call obligation.

Requirements

  • MLT: Graduate of an associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technician or meets CLIA guidelines for alternative route
  • MLS: Graduate of a four-year degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, or MLT (ASCP) certified with additional semester hours and 2 years of full-time lab experience and MLS (ASCP) certification
  • MLT: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) or equivalent required within one year from date of hire
  • MLS: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP) required within one year from date of hire
  • Ability to perform tests of all complexity levels and handle complex problem solving
  • Experience with Quality Assurance, Quality Control, instrumentation maintenance, and troubleshooting

Responsibilities

  • Perform and report tests of all complexity levels, as defined by CLIA, on patients of all ages
  • Assist with routine screening, diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases and injuries
  • Exhibit problem solving skills of a complex nature and participate in Quality Assurance and Quality Control monitoring
  • Perform instrumentation maintenance and troubleshooting, specimen processing, and phlebotomy
  • Provide customer service and support laboratory operations
  • Interpret and correlate test results with disease states and theoretical knowledge (MLS level)
  • Participate in research, development, education, and technical consultation (MLS level)
