About this role
This position is responsible for processing all release of information requests in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring accuracy and providing customers with the highest quality product and customer service. The associate must safeguard and protect the patient's right to privacy by ensuring only authorized individuals have access to medical information.
Daily tasks include date stamping requests, highlighting pertinent data, retrieving patient charts, scanning records accurately, and transmitting daily. The specialist validates requests and authorizations, performs quality checks, and maintains equipment in excellent operating condition, while also providing excellent customer service by being attentive and respectful.
The role operates remotely, with responsibilities including handling incoming requests via mail, telephone, and facsimile. The specialist maintains a neat, clean, and professional work area, works within scope, willingly accepts assignments, and helps during backlogs. Confidentiality, security, and ethical standards are paramount in all activities.

Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 2 years prior experience in a medical records department or similar setting preferred.
- Strong computer software experience, including general working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and state laws related to release of medical information.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in processing medical records.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple requests and prioritize tasks.
- Experience with electronic health records or medical records management systems preferred.
Responsibilities
- Complete release of information requests, including retrieving patient charts, scanning medical records accurately, and transmitting daily.
- Validate requests and authorizations for release of medical information according to established procedures.
- Perform quality checks on all work to assure accuracy, confidentiality, and proper invoicing.
- Provide excellent customer service by being attentive, respectful, and proactively identifying client concerns.
- Receive incoming requests via mail, telephone, and facsimile as needed.
- Maintain working knowledge of existing state laws and fee structures.
- Work within scope of position, willingly accept additional assignments and help out during backlogs.
- Maintain confidentiality, security, and standards of ethics with all information.
