About this role

We are looking for a motivated Biomedical Scientist to join our Pathology team at Spire Leeds Hospital in Leeds. This 18-month fixed-term role offers the chance to work in a supportive, well-equipped laboratory while playing a key part in delivering accurate and timely diagnostics for our patients.

Shift patterns include early, day, and late shifts with overnight on-call and weekend working on a rota basis. Your daily responsibilities involve planning, analyzing, and reporting pathology investigations to ensure high-quality service, and you will also develop and evaluate the movement of laboratory specimens, blood and tissues.

Spire Leeds Hospital, located in Roundhay, has been treating patients for almost 30 years and is the region's largest private hospital. The hospital offers four operating theatres, a sterile services department, a dedicated endoscopy suite, and a diagnostic department with MRI and CT scanners.

This role provides an opportunity to contribute to a collaborative healthcare environment and assist with research and development. You will develop your own knowledge and skills while promoting best practice in health and safety and contribute to quality improvement.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified or HNC in Medical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent that allows eligibility for Associate Membership of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences.
  • Registered Biomedical Scientist with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Experience working within a performance-driven culture while maintaining safe standards.
  • Experience in a scientific laboratory.
  • Experience of the independent sector.
  • Ability to support the commercial development of pathology services locally.
  • Experience working in partnership with consultants and helping create innovative solutions for new pathology services.
  • Uses evidence-based practice.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the organisation, management and development of services within the laboratory.
  • Liaise with the Laboratory Consultant and Manager to ensure high-quality service in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Plan, analyse, assess and report pathology investigations.
  • Develop and evaluate the movement of laboratory specimens, blood and tissues.
  • Assist with research and development.
  • Plan, monitor and quality assure the application of technology for measuring and monitoring pathology investigations.
  • Promote best practice in health and safety and security.
  • Contribute to quality improvement.
