About this role

The Nursing Assistant/Ward Clerk/EKG Tech works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. He/she performs specific care to assigned patients, administering simple treatments and providing bedside care. Observes patients for change of condition and communicates same.

Assists in keeping patient and work areas neat, clean and stocked. Promotes cooperation, a positive attitude and creates a safe environment for both patients and staff. Responsible for knowing and adhering to established hospital policies and procedures, including all aspects of safety.

Takes and records vital signs accurately, documents patient care in Hospital Information System, and performs EKGs. Handles ward clerk duties like computer entry, ED log maintenance, and heavy phone volume. Responds to patient call lights promptly and maintains cleanliness of equipment.

Provides for the general comfort, welfare, and safety of patients in the Emergency Department. Assists Registered Nurse with nursing care according to established policies. Performs other duties as deemed appropriate by Management.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Possession of or ability to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities during the probationary period
  • Current BLS provider certification from the American Heart Association
  • Minimum 6 months working experience in a healthcare setting
  • Ability to lift and transport patients
  • NYS Certified Nursing Assistant license or certification (preferred)
  • One year of patient care experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Assists Registered Nurse with nursing care of assigned patients according to established policies and procedures
  • Takes and records temperatures, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure in an accurate manner
  • Documents patient care, vital signs I&O in Hospital Information System
  • Performs EKGs
  • Provides for the general comfort, welfare, and safety of patients
  • Handles ward clerk duties including computer entry, ED log maintenance, heavy phone volume
  • Maintains cleanliness of patient work area and patient care unit equipment
  • Responds to patient call lights promptly and provides necessary assistance
