About this role
Make a broader impact on healthcare standards as a Health Care Compliance Officer with the Arizona Department of Health Services. This role allows Registered Nurses to transition their patient-care experience into a high-impact regulatory position within the Division of Public Health Licensing Services.
You will work specifically with the Bureau of Medical Facility Licensing’s Home Health and Hospice team, conducting initial and annual recertification inspections of health care institutions. Your work ensures compliance with all applicable regulations and protects public health interests across Arizona.
Day-to-day duties include reviewing quality systems by tracking documents and corrective actions, conducting investigations of licensed or unlicensed facilities upon receiving complaints, and responding to technical questions from licensees. You will also assist in determining the issuance of licenses and maintaining current licenses by ensuring ongoing regulatory compliance.
This role offers the opportunity to develop expertise in rulemaking, formulating statements of deficiencies, and corresponding with the regulated community. Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Experience in home health and/or hospice settings
- Ability to interpret and apply statutes, rules, and internal procedures
- Strong attention to detail for conducting inspections and reviewing quality systems
- Ability to prepare clear and thorough investigative reports
- Experience corresponding with regulatory bodies or the regulated community preferred
- Ability to perform services that need regulation and respond to technical questions
Responsibilities
- Learn to interpret and understand statutes, rules, and internal procedures for discipline
- Participate in and conduct inspections and investigations to determine compliance with state regulations, statutes, rules, and internal procedures
- Prepare detailed investigative or inspection reports
- Assist with or determine the issuing of licenses to licensed facilities and providers, maintaining current licenses by ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations
- Review quality systems by tracking documents, corrective actions, and other quality data
- Conduct investigations of the operation of a licensed facility or provider upon receiving a complaint or of an unlicensed facility
- Respond to technical questions from licensees and provide miscellaneous technical assistance to current or potential providers
- Develop standards and participate in rulemaking, and formulate statements of deficiencies and correspondence regarding changes in license status
