About this role

Occupational therapy is defined as the therapeutic use of everyday life activities with individuals or groups for the purpose of enhancing or enabling participation in roles, habits, and routines across home, school, workplace, community, and other settings. Practitioners apply their knowledge of the transactional relationship among the person, their engagement in valuable occupations, and the context to design occupation-based intervention plans.

In this inpatient acute care role, you will assess patients' functional abilities and develop individualized treatment plans that facilitate change in client factors such as body functions, values, and beliefs, as well as motor, process, and social interaction skills. Interventions are designed to support successful participation in daily activities and to promote habilitation, rehabilitation, and overall health and wellness.

Services are provided to clients with disability- and non-disability-related needs, including those at risk for or experiencing illness, injury, disease, or activity limitations. You will collaborate with the interdisciplinary hospital team to enable engagement through adaptations and modifications to the environment or objects, ensuring safe and effective care transitions.

Occupational therapy practitioners are concerned with the end result of participation and acquisition of occupational identity. This per-diem opportunity offers a dynamic acute care setting where you can apply your expertise to help patients regain independence and improve their quality of life.

Requirements

Licensed as an Occupational Therapist by the Virginia Department of Health Professions (required).
BLS Certification (required).
Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy (required); Master's degree in occupational therapy (preferred).
One year of experience in occupational therapy (preferred).
Knowledge of the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework Domain and Process 3rd Edition.

Responsibilities

Utilize therapeutic use of everyday life activities to enhance or enable patient participation in valued roles and routines.
Design occupation-based intervention plans that facilitate change in client factors and skills—motor, process, and social interaction.
Assess patients' functional status and needs in the acute care inpatient environment.
Implement adaptations and modifications to the environment or objects to enable successful engagement.
Provide occupational therapy services for habilitation, rehabilitation, and promotion of health and wellness.
Document patient progress and collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team to coordinate discharge planning.
