About this role

As a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant at Monarch House, you will support the Speech Language Pathologist team in progressing patient goals. You will work primarily with school-aged children, but may also work with preschool children or adults, with interactions being virtual or face-to-face.

Your daily work involves assisting in the implementation of SLP treatment plans and carrying out sessions based on specific therapy goals. You will document treatment sessions by writing progress notes that reflect patient performance and behaviors, and you will elicit, collect, and record patient response data.

This centre-based role in Port Coquitlam places you within a supportive, interdisciplinary team focused on collaboration and professional boundaries. You will be directly and indirectly supervised by the SLP on a regular basis, contributing to excellence in the patient and stakeholder experience.

Requirements

Secondary courses in linguistics or language development
Completion of a recognized Speech-Language Pathology Assistant program or equivalent training
Post-graduate certificate in communicative disorders (asset)
1 to 2 years of community experience (asset)
Experience with virtual care (asset)

Responsibilities

Assist in the implementation of recommendations of the SLP treatment plan and carry out treatment sessions based on specific therapy goals established by the supervising SLP
Understand treatment objectives and stay within those objectives until the treatment program is changed or modified by the supervising SLP
Determine the need for and/or develop intervention materials for additional intervention from the supervising SLP
Document treatment sessions by writing progress notes that reflect patient performance and behaviors as well as any other relevant information
Contribute to excellence in the patient and stakeholder experience through collaboration and maintenance of professional relationships within role boundaries
Elicit, collect and record patient response data, and maintain confidentiality of all patient, family and significant others’ personal health information
