As a Medical Records Clerk, you will maintain accurate health records and ensure patient information is properly documented and secure. Your day-to-day work includes organizing an approved system of records, completing forms for release of information, filing loose documentation, and scheduling inmates for medical appointments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of medical records procedures and terminology.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
  • Demonstrated accountability and efficiency in a clinical setting.
  • Basic computer skills including word processing and data entry.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain up-to-date medical records filing and perform clerical and technical duties such as preparing reports and correspondence, answering telephones, relaying messages, transferring calls, and filing loose documentation from inside and outside the institution.
  • Ensure the confidentiality of all medical records information and complete forms for release of information, referring any questionable requests to the Medical Records Supervisor or Health Services Administrator.
  • Schedule inmates for medical appointments as requested and assist in preparing periodic statistical reports and other management information system requirements.
  • Actively participate in quality of care screen audits to promote Quality Improvement standards.
  • Maintain accountability for the organization and maintenance of health records, ensuring patient information is properly documented and secure.
  • Organize and manage an approved system of records for efficient retrieval.
