About this role

The University of Iowa College of Dentistry is seeking a Health Information Tech I to join the Office of Oral Pathology, Radiology, and Medicine. You will provide essential front-office and patient support by managing scheduling, handling communications, and maintaining electronic health records.

In your daily work, you will answer and route department phone calls, schedule patients according to procedures, and enter and verify patient information in AxiUm. You will also send confirmation letters to referring providers, monitor incoming faxes, and review patient referrals for scheduling or waitlist placement. Processing consult requests and updating electronic health records are also key parts of the role.

You will work within the College of Dentistry's Oral Pathology, Radiology, and Medicine office, a collaborative clinical and academic setting. The team supports dental students, faculty, and patients in a university health care environment. This role requires careful coordination with providers and administrative staff to ensure accurate record-keeping.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, particularly in oral pathology and radiology
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems; familiarity with AxiUm is a plus
  • Strong customer service and patient interaction skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize in a clinical office setting
  • Attention to detail for accurate data entry and record maintenance
  • Ability to handle confidential patient information in compliance with HIPAA
