About this role

This role implements individual patient therapy care plans prepared by an Occupational Therapist, with direct supervision provided by the same. As an independent contractor, you will deliver care in a homecare setting, focusing on restoring independence and improving physical and mental functioning for each client.

Day-to-day responsibilities include guiding clients in prescribed therapeutic self-care and creative activities, instructing them in the use of wheelchairs, braces, splints, and prosthetic or orthotic devices, and assisting in teaching exercise programs to both patients and families. You will also observe and record activities and findings in the clinical record, reporting the client's reaction to treatment and any changes in condition to the physician.

You will work autonomously in the field while collaborating closely with the supervising Occupational Therapist and communicating effectively with all those providing care. This position requires an organized and flexible professional who can work well both independently and as part of a care team.

Requirements

Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Must have at least 2 years of Occupational Therapy Assistant experience
Registered Occupational Therapy Assistant in the State of Florida
CPR certification
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

Responsibilities

Implement individual patient therapy care plans prepared by the Occupational Therapist
Identify possible ineffective drug therapy, adverse reactions, significant side effects, drug allergies, and contra-indicated medications, reporting to supervisor
Advise and consult with family regarding the potential for achievement of the client's optimum potential
Observe and record activities and findings in the clinical record, reporting the client's reaction to treatment and any changes in condition to the physician
Guide and instruct the client in prescribed therapeutic self-care and creative activities directed toward improving independence and physical and mental functioning
Instruct the client in care and use of wheelchairs, braces, splints, and prosthetic and orthotic devices
Assist in teaching exercise programs to the patient and family
