Under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse, the Patient Care Technician/Medical Secretary performs non-licensed patient care in accordance with established Nursing Standards and Hospital Policies. You will also handle clerical, reception, and administrative duties including patient check-in and registration, triaging phone calls and electronic messages, insurance verification, and all check-out duties.

This role is essential to promoting teamwork with all members of the healthcare team, ensuring seamless coordination between clinical and administrative functions in the Emergency Department. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Current state licensure as a Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.)
  • OR current Nursing student with completion of nursing fundamentals course within 90 days of employment
  • OR previous documented work experience as a PCT, Nurse Assistant, EMT, or Surgical Tech within the last 3 years
  • OR successful completion of an Unlicensed Assistive Personnel program within the last 3 years
  • Ability to perform clerical and reception duties in a fast-paced clinical setting

Responsibilities

  • Perform non-licensed patient care under the direction and supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse
  • Complete patient check-in, registration, and all check-out duties
  • Triage phone calls and electronic messages from patients and providers
  • Verify insurance information and process administrative paperwork
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe patient care environment
  • Promote teamwork and effective communication with all members of the healthcare team
  • Adhere to established Nursing Standards and Hospital Policies in all duties
