Kent Hospital, an affiliate of the Care New England Health System, is seeking an ICU Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our collaborative team in Warwick, Rhode Island. It is a 359-bed acute care facility and the largest community hospital in Rhode Island. Primary responsibility is managing a caseload of critically ill complex patients in the ICU unit (14 beds) or PRG Unit (10 beds).

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in the Intensive Care Unit provides comprehensive, high-acuity medical care to critically ill patients. This role involves collaboration with intensivists, physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams. The APP delivers evidence-based care, performs advanced procedures, and ensures optimal patient outcomes.

Join a team of 9 critical care advanced practitioners supported by Pulmonary Critical Care attending physicians. Practice is 100% clinical, seeing an average of 15 patients per day including inpatient management (average 3-4 patients) and consults (average 12 patients). Procedures include intubations, central lines, lumbar punctures, thoracentesis, and arterial lines.

Schedule requires 1-2 12-hour shifts per month, including days and nights in the ICU and step-down unit. 1+ years of ICU experience is preferred. This per diem role offers involvement in a dynamic critical care environment.

Requirements

  • Nurse Practitioner (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) licensure
  • 1+ years of ICU experience preferred
  • Experience managing critically ill complex patients
  • Proficiency in high-acuity critical care
  • Ability to perform advanced ICU procedures such as intubations and central lines
  • Critical care knowledge for inpatient management and consults

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of critically ill complex patients in the ICU unit (14 beds) or PRG Unit (10 beds)
  • Provide comprehensive, high-acuity medical care to critically ill patients
  • Collaborate with intensivists, physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Deliver evidence-based care and perform advanced procedures
  • Handle inpatient management for an average of 3-4 patients per day
  • Manage consults for an average of 12 patients per day
  • Perform procedures including intubations, central lines, lumbar punctures, thoracentesis, and arterial lines
  • Ensure optimal patient outcomes in a critical care setting
