About this role
At the Department of Health Tasmania, the Ward Clerk works as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team committed to delivering safe, efficient, and patient-centred care. The role provides high quality customer-focused reception services and administration and clerical support across all areas of the Inpatient services unit in accordance with established policies and procedures. This ensures smooth ward operations and accurate administrative support.
Provide frontline assistance supporting effective administrative operations by assisting the general public, patients, and clinical staff, answering enquiries, and directing incoming telephone calls. Support the Nurse Unit Manager by receiving and processing admissions and discharges, verifying discharge-planning protocols, and expediting discharges to assist bed re-allocation. Arrange and schedule appointments while accurately entering and retrieving patient information on computerised systems including the Digital Medical Record.
The team collaborates closely with clinical staff, patients, and families for effective communication, smooth ward operations, and enhanced patient experience. Through teamwork, professionalism, and attention to detail, the team supports clinical services in hospitals like Royal Hobart Hospital and Launceston General Hospital across Tasmania.
Tasmania's Department of Health oversees major hospitals, community health, and primary care through over 300 sites. Embrace a lifestyle of natural beauty and strong connections while impacting the community in this fixed-term casual role working as and when required for approximately 12 months.
Requirements
- Knowledge of established policies and procedures relating to clinical, financial and administrative requirements of Inpatient services unit
- Proficiency in computerised patient information management systems including the Digital Medical Record (DMR)
- Ability to verify discharge-planning protocols
- Skills in expediting discharges to support Nurse Unit Manager, Bed Manager and Theatre personnel
- Experience providing frontline reception and assistance in a ward environment
- Attention to detail for accurate patient data management
Responsibilities
- Provide high quality customer-focused reception services
- Deliver administration and clerical support across all areas of Inpatient services unit
- Assist the general public, patients and clinical staff
- Answer patient and public enquiries and direct incoming telephone calls
- Receive and process all direct admissions and discharges from the Ward/Unit
- Verify discharge-planning protocols and expedite discharges to assist bed re-allocation
- Arrange and schedule appointments to ensure ongoing patient care
- Accurately enter and retrieve patient information onto/from computerised patient information management systems including the Digital Medical Record
Benefits
- Salary of $66,049 to $70,993 per annum (pro rata) with 12% employer superannuation contribution
