About this role

The Pathology Processor is responsible for pick up and collection, accessioning and processing all tissue specimens, PAP smears, ThinPREP, and non-gyn cytology. This position works under direct supervision in a hospital laboratory setting.

Responsibilities include providing assistance to pathologists during gross dictation and performing frozen sections for rapid diagnoses while patients are in the operating rooms. The role also provides support to histotechnicians as necessary throughout the day.

Work situations are generally routine but require concentration, close attention to detail, and a high degree of accuracy under stressful timelines. Internal contacts include operating room staff, surgeons, pathologists and laboratory staff.

MultiCare Auburn Medical Center is a 195-bed hospital with Level III Trauma Center, advanced surgical services, and a collaborative high-performing team serving South King County since 1921.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred
  • Pathology/Laboratory experience highly preferred
  • Ability to work under direct supervision with routine but detailed tasks
  • Capacity to maintain concentration and a high degree of accuracy

Responsibilities

  • Perform pick up and collection, accessioning and processing of all tissue specimens, PAP smears, ThinPREP, and non-gyn cytology
  • Provide assistance to pathologists during gross dictation
  • Perform frozen sections for rapid diagnoses while patients are in the operating rooms
  • Provide assistance to histotechnicians as necessary
  • Communicate information properly to physician offices, surgeons and pathologists
  • Maintain concentration and accuracy while working under stressful timelines
