About this role

UK-Med is a frontline medical aid charity born of the British National Health Service, working over 30 years towards healthcare access in crises. We seek experienced Theatre Nurses with humanitarian context experience to join our register. Deploy internationally at short notice for 4-12 weeks to provide surgical care in emergencies.

Focus on ensuring patient safety by maintaining sterile environments, adhering to infection control, and implementing protocols to prevent complications. Provide high-quality perioperative care, collaborating with surgical teams for patient preparation, procedure assistance, vital sign monitoring, and smooth workflows. Be ready for critical incidents, mass casualties, or trauma cases.

Work under pressure supporting humanitarian programme delivery with full-time hours, including some weekends and evenings. Join a determined, high-performing, compassionate, and collaborative team committed to learning. Travel to international or UK-Med responses as needed.

Requirements

  • Experienced Theatre Nurse able to work under pressure in medical emergency responses
  • Previous experience working in humanitarian contexts
  • Current nursing license with unconditional membership of a suitable registering organisation
  • Specific qualifications or professional registrations in Nursing Science/Degree
  • Available to travel and work internationally at short notice for minimum 4-6 weeks
  • Determined, high performing, compassionate, collaborative, and committed to learning
  • Language skills an advantage

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe and effective surgical care to individuals affected by crises and emergencies
  • Ensure patient safety by maintaining a sterile environment, adhering to infection control practices, and implementing safety protocols
  • Deliver high-quality perioperative care, collaborating with the surgical team for patient preparation and assisting during procedures
  • Monitor patients' vital signs, administer medications, and facilitate smooth surgical workflow
  • Provide immediate nursing care during critical incidents, mass casualty situations, or trauma cases
  • Assist in resuscitation efforts and manage life-threatening situations to support the surgical team
