About this role

Akicita Federal seeks Registered Nurses to deliver high-acuity primary and specialty care to veterans at the Dayton VA Medical Center. You will spend most of your time at the bedside, assessing patients and making real-time clinical decisions to improve veteran health outcomes. This role demands independent judgment and technical skill in a fast-paced interdisciplinary environment.

Daily duties include performing critical care nursing for ICU patients and serving scrub and circulating roles in the Emergency Department and Operating Room. You will conduct thorough patient assessments, formulate individualized care plans, administer medications and IV therapies, and interpret cardiac rhythms to initiate life-saving measures as needed.

You will operate complex technical equipment including defibrillators, EKG machines, and cardiac monitors, and provide central line and ventilator care in compliance with facility policies. Patient and family education on medications, therapies, and procedures is central, as is active participation in interdisciplinary discharge planning and incident reporting.

Requirements

Active Registered Nurse license in Ohio
BLS certification (ACLS preferred)
Ability to interpret cardiac rhythms and initiate life-saving measures
Experience with electronic medical records (VistA or similar VA platforms preferred)
Background spanning multiple high-acuity care environments (ICU, Emergency Department, and/or Operating Room) preferred
Experience with ventilator management and central line care preferred
Demonstrated comfort leading or contributing to interdisciplinary care conferences and discharge planning teams preferred

Responsibilities

Perform critical care nursing for ICU patients
Fulfill scrub and circulating duties in the Emergency Department and Operating Room as assigned
Conduct thorough patient assessments and formulate individualized nursing care plans
Administer prescribed medications and IV therapies, monitoring patient responses
Interpret cardiac rhythms and initiate appropriate life-saving measures, including in the absence of an on-site physician
Operate complex technical equipment including defibrillators, EKG machines, and cardiac monitors
Educate patients and families on medications, therapies, and procedures, and participate in interdisciplinary discharge planning
