About this role

Scripps Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Emergency Services Float Pool at Scripps Memorial La Jolla, a Level I Trauma Center located inside the Prebys Cardiovascular Institute. This role offers the opportunity to work with comprehensive stroke, LVAD, Level I trauma, and ECMO programs in a 47-bed emergency department.

RNs in this float pool position will provide direct patient care across multiple locations, including Scripps Memorial La Jolla ED, Scripps Torrey Pines Urgent Care, and occasionally Scripps Encinitas ED. Responsibilities include assessment, planning, implementing care plans, and evaluating patient progress toward expected outcomes.

Emergency Services RNs at La Jolla are trained as Mobile Intensive Care Nurses (MICN) and have the opportunity to work in a designated Base Station, providing direction and support to medics. The role involves collaborating with the patient care team to ensure optimal care and actively participating in process improvements.

This position is eligible for New Hire and Relocation Incentives up to $7K. RNs have access to a wide array of educational opportunities and hands-on experience with advanced cardiac and trauma care in one of the largest cardiovascular centers on the West Coast.

Requirements

  • Current California RN license
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • PALS certification from the American Heart Association
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent Emergency Department RN experience
  • MICN certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care within the scope of his/her practice
  • Performs patient assessment, planning, and implementation of a plan of care
  • Evaluates patients' progress towards expected outcomes
  • Takes primary responsibility for patients' care as delivered by the Care Team under his/her supervision
  • Works collaboratively with other members of the patient care team to ensure optimal patient care
  • Floats between Scripps Memorial La Jolla ED, Scripps Torrey Pines Urgent Care, and occasionally Scripps Encinitas ED
  • Serves as a Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN) in a designated Base Station, providing direction and support to medics
  • Actively participates in process improvements and educational opportunities
