About this role

The Aga Khan University Hospital in Karachi, Pakistan, is seeking a Senior Medical Officer for Emergency Medicine with a focus on pediatrics. This part-time role involves working non-full-time shifts, including days and nights, to support the Emergency Room operations.

In this role, you will perform initial patient evaluations, investigations, and management to maintain consistent high clinical quality and service standards. You will conduct physical examinations, monitor patient progress vigilantly, and perform medical procedures under supervision while communicating progress to consultants, patients, and families.

You will work within a not-for-profit, JCI-accredited Academic Medical Centre that offers a full spectrum of medical services under one roof. The hospital is part of a network that includes secondary care hospitals, medical centres, clinical laboratories, and pharmacies across over 120 cities in Pakistan.

This position offers the opportunity to continually enhance your competencies in a clinical setting under the supervision of consultants and faculty. You will also conduct bedside teaching and training while actively participating in the academic activities of the Emergency Department.

Requirements

  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) with valid registration with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC)
  • Completion of residency training in Emergency Medicine or Pediatrics
  • Experience in managing pediatric emergency cases
  • Ability to work non-full time and in shifts (day/night) to support Emergency Room operations
  • Demonstrated clinical competence in initial evaluation, investigation, and management of patients
  • Proficiency in performing medical procedures under supervision
  • Strong documentation skills for clinical notes, progress notes, and discharge summaries

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient's initial evaluation, investigation, and management to maintain consistent high clinical quality and service standards
  • Perform physical examination and monitor patient's progress vigilantly
  • Perform medical procedures under supervision and communicate the progress of patients to the concerned consultant, as well as to the patient and/or family
  • Assess patients and perform and complete required paperwork by filling out relevant forms as per hospital protocols
  • Participate in the management of patients under the supervision of consultants
  • Display effective and relevant documentation with quality record keeping of clinical notes, progress notes, and discharge summaries as indicated
  • Conduct bedside teaching and training while actively participating in academic activities of the Emergency Department
  • Supervise the work of interns
