About this role

The Chief Medical Officer provides service to the medical staff and hospital leadership for the Market, assisting them in fulfilling their mission, plans, and objectives. This role has a direct impact on the quality and financial outcomes of clinical and operational departments throughout the Market.

In this position, you will network, build consensus, collaborate, and problem-solve across physician groups and leadership. You will play a key role in implementing strategic and operating plans, as well as service line development, with a focus on physician relationships.

Working closely with the Market President, Medical Staff President, and the Chief Clinical Officer, you will bridge the clinical arena of the Market with Trinity Health standards of performance. You will chair committees, serve as a resource for difficult medical staff decisions, and create unity among facility medical staffs.

This role offers the opportunity to lead quality improvement initiatives, set universal patient care standards, and drive the development of leadership opportunities for key medical staff. The CMO is a role model for changing behavior and fostering better understanding of business and strategic operations.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
  • Active, unrestricted medical license in the state of practice.
  • Board certification in a recognized medical specialty.
  • Proven experience in medical staff leadership and physician relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement clinical quality improvement initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of hospital operations, strategic planning, and financial management in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience working collaboratively with executive leadership, including C-suite and medical staff presidents.

Responsibilities

  • Provide an effective bridge between Market management and facility medical staffs to create superior physician relationships and secure input into major decisions.
  • Directly responsible to the CCO for centralized medical staff functions, including the medical staff development plan and recruitment.
  • Support the formal medical staff function at all facilities and chair committees as appropriate.
  • Hold self out as a resource in dealing with difficult medical staff decisions.
  • Assist in developing and implementing the physician Continuous Quality Improvement process throughout the Market.
  • Set a universal standard for patient care delivery and lead goal-setting and improvement plans for all Trinity Health quality standards.
  • Participate in service line and patient care competency development, promoting programs and services to referring physicians.
  • Work with facility medical staff presidents to provide leadership development opportunities and set goals for key medical staff development.
