The Department of Pathology at the University of Toledo Medical Center (UTMC) seeks a part-time, tenure track academic Surgical Pathologist/Cytopathologist. UTMC is a tertiary care center that supports the UT College of Medicine's programs for medical students, graduate students, and residents. It offers a blend of clinical practice and academic teaching.

Primary clinical responsibilities involve collaborating with other anatomic pathologists at UTMC. Teaching of residents and medical students is a critical component, demanding exemplary teaching skills. The work schedule includes Monday through Friday with call every sixth weekend.

The Department of Pathology has training programs for AP/CP residents, pathologists' assistants, and laboratory technicians. As a tertiary care center, UTMC offers a broad range of clinical cases. The academic environment includes collaboration with the UT College of Medicine and offers opportunities for both independent and collaborative research.

The candidate is expected to develop a strong publication record through independent or collaborative research. The tenure track pathway provides opportunities for academic advancement. Requirements

  • M.D. or equivalent degree
  • AP/CP Board certification
  • Successful completion of Fellowship in Cytopathology along with Board Certification
  • Eligibility for licensure in Ohio
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching
  • Evidence of significant scholarly activity
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in Pathology/Cytopathology

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on primary clinical responsibilities at UTMC with other anatomic pathologists
  • Provide diagnostic services in surgical pathology and cytopathology
  • Teach residents and medical students as a critical part of the position, demonstrating exemplary teaching skills
  • Develop a strong publication record through independent or collaborative research
  • Provide services Monday through Friday
  • Participate in call schedule every sixth weekend
  • Conduct and interpret fine needle aspiration biopsies
  • Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and clinical conferences
