The Histotechnologist completes quality control records, maintains supplies and reagents, and performs general preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment. This high-volume laboratory requires the ability to cut up to 100 blocks per shift while multi-tasking and working independently.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in life science required
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • ASCP histopathology certification (HT or HTL) preferred
  • Two years of experience as a histotechnologist in a high-volume hospital histology laboratory within the last five years
  • Ability to perform in a high-volume laboratory cutting 100 blocks per shift
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to meet physical demands: walking or standing up to 49% of shift, occasionally lift up to 20 lbs

Responsibilities

  • Perform specimen processing, embedding, microtomy, routine, special, and immunohistochemistry stains
  • Complete quality control records as part of daily workflow
  • Maintain supplies and reagents for the histology laboratory
  • Perform general preventive maintenance on laboratory equipment
  • Accept work assignments across departments or El Camino Hospital campuses within a 15-mile radius as needed
  • Handle high-volume workload by cutting up to 100 blocks per shift
  • Work under general supervision from the Medical Director and Histology Supervisor
  • Multi-task and work independently with minimal supervision
