About this role
This role is responsible for following the laboratory's procedures for specimen collection, handling, and processing, as well as test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of test results. The technologist or technician will also ensure adherence to the laboratory's quality control policies and document all quality control activities, instrument calibrations, and maintenance.
Day-to-day tasks include identifying indicators that may impact test performance or reporting of test results and either making corrections or notifying the Lab Supervisor. Responsibilities also involve ordering, receiving, and distributing laboratory stock as needed in the laboratory and treatment area.
The position requires a strong commitment to safety policies defined by Patient First and OSHA, along with providing positive, warm, and friendly customer service in all interactions. Fostering teamwork and a positive, professional atmosphere is essential to the lab environment.

Requirements
- Employee must be at least 18 years of age
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Keyboarding experience required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Minimum 60 semester hours from a regionally accredited college, including chemistry, biology, and medical laboratory techniques, or an Associate degree in chemistry, biology or related science, plus completion of clinical rotations in microbiology, urinalysis, chemistry and hematology; or a fifty week military Medical Laboratory Procedures course meeting qualifications for military enlisted occupational specialty of 'Medical Laboratory Specialist'
- Registered Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or other recognized certification agency preferred

Responsibilities
- Following the laboratory’s procedure for specimen collection, handling, and processing, as well as test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of test results
- Following the laboratory’s quality control policies and documenting all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance
- Identifying indicators that may impact test performance or reporting of test results and either making corrections or notifying the Lab Supervisor
- Ordering, receiving, and distributing laboratory stock as needed in the laboratory and treatment area
- Understanding all checklists and performing all duties on the checklists associated with the position
- Adhering to safety policies as defined by Patient First and OSHA
- Providing positive, warm and friendly customer service in all interactions and fostering teamwork and a positive, professional atmosphere
- Completing other duties as directed
