About this role
This role works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager in the Maternity Services department at Southern Ohio Medical Center. The primary job function is to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and supervise individual patient care on the maternity nursing unit according to unit policies and procedures.
Day-to-day responsibilities include completing nursing assessments, developing and updating the plan of care, and communicating with physicians and other health team members. The RN also initiates and participates in discharge planning, implements and coordinates patient care, and facilitates patient and family teaching as appropriate.
The maternity team supports each strategic value by providing excellent care to those we serve. The role involves hourly rounding, bedside shift report, answering call lights, and performing total patient care, as well as infant security prevention strategies with each baby.

Requirements
- High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
- Licensed to practice as an RN in Ohio required.
- BLS within 90 days of hire required.
- NRP within 90 days of hire required.
- No prior experience required.
Responsibilities
- Complete nursing assessment of patients and document appropriately on patient record.
- Develop, evaluate, and update the plan of care based upon the assessment of the patient.
- Communicate and collaborate with physicians and other health team members in developing a plan of care.
- Initiate, manage, and participate in discharge planning process.
- Implement, delegate, and coordinate patient care.
- Facilitate patient/family teaching as appropriate.
- Participate in hourly rounding and bedside shift report.
- Perform infant security prevention strategies with each baby.
