This Medical Laboratory Technician position plays a vital role in delivering that mission.
In this role, you will accurately perform a variety of routine and complex laboratory tests and report results within the expected turnaround time. Your work directly assists healthcare providers in delivering the most optimal patient outcomes, from cancer care to diabetes treatment.
Day-to-day responsibilities include performing equipment maintenance, calibration, and quality control testing per departmental procedures. You will also handle specimen transport, processing for in-house and send-out testing to reference laboratories, answer telephone calls, and review pending logs to ensure smooth laboratory operations.
You will collaborate with a dedicated team of healthcare professionals in a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center. The work environment supports professional growth through exposure to cutting-edge research and a commitment to excellence in patient care.
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree in Medical Technology, Biological Sciences, or related field from an accredited college or university, or successful completion of a U.S. military Medical Laboratory training program
- Certification required (ASCP or AMT) or eligible to take exam; must successfully complete certification within 18 months of hire
- Professional demeanor with effective collaboration and communication skills to ensure teamwork with co-workers, nursing staff, and physicians
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
- Above average problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Responsibilities
- Accurately perform a variety of routine and complex laboratory tests
- Report results within expected turnaround time to assist healthcare providers in delivering optimal patient outcomes
- Perform all required equipment maintenance, calibration, and quality control testing per departmental procedures
- Sign up for on-call shifts and provide coverage for other shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Handle specimen transport and processing for in-house and send-out testing to reference laboratories
- Answer telephone calls and review pending logs to maintain efficient workflow
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
- Collaborate effectively with co-workers, nursing staff, and physicians to support patient care
