About this role

The Residential Registered Nurse provides care for patients progressing through the medical process, collaborating with physicians, counselors, behavioral health technicians, and other healthcare professionals to plan and deliver care using a multidisciplinary patient-centered approach. This role ensures patient safety and comfort during detoxification and treatment.

Assess and monitor patients' physical and psychological signs of withdrawal from mood-altering chemicals. Administer medications as prescribed to ensure patient safety, and obtain comprehensive nursing history from patients or significant others. Perform basic assessments, record vital signs, and report abnormalities to physicians.

The RN works closely with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, counselors, and behavioral health techs. They participate in handoff meetings at the start and end of each shift for continuity of care and effective communication. Supervision of BHT staff ensures quality care delivery.

The RN plays a teaching role, educating patients about the dangers of drug abuse and treatment options. They also educate family members on supporting recovery. Professional growth is encouraged through current reading, attendance at educational programs, and participation in peer review.

Requirements

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Arizona.
Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology for basic patient assessment.
Ability to monitor and manage signs and symptoms of withdrawal from mood-altering chemicals.
Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems for charting patient care.
Understanding of state and nursing guidelines and Infection Control Protocols.
Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including physicians, counselors, and behavioral health technicians.
CPR certification (BLS) preferred.

Responsibilities

Assess and monitor patients’ physical and psychological signs and symptoms of withdrawal from mood-altering chemicals.
Administer medications as prescribed to ensure patient safety.
Obtain and document nursing history from patients and/or significant others that is comprehensive of present condition and prior problems.
Perform basic assessments of patients, record vital signs, note changes, and report abnormal diagnostic data to physicians.
Follow physician orders for patient care including admissions, medication administration, treatment protocols, and discharge.
Provide quality care assurance following state and nursing guidelines and Infection Control Protocols.
Participate in handoff report meetings at beginning and end of shift for continuity of care and effective communication.
Supervise care given by BHT staff and provide instruction as needed.
