About this role
The Department of Public Health/Tewksbury Hospital is seeking professional and dedicated Registered Nurse IIIs to perform in a permanent charge position on Patient Care Units. They provide primary nursing care to adult patients and establish nursing plans of approach. This role ensures quality care by following hospital and departmental standards.
As charge nurse, you assume daily responsibility for continuity of care, collaborating with the Nurse Manager in supervision and evaluation of personnel. You identify patient needs through nursing assessments, develop interventions, and participate in team meetings to facilitate discharge. Participating in inter-shift reports and nursing rounds to assess health care status and outcomes is essential.
You collaborate with the interdisciplinary team in multidisciplinary meetings and rounds to communicate pertinent patient care information. You supervise employees of lesser grade by assigning tasks based on individual competencies and evaluating performance. This role is essential for maintaining a high level of quality care in a hospital setting.

Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts.
- Ability to assume charge nurse responsibilities and provide continuity of care.
- Experience in providing primary nursing care to adult patients.
- Knowledge of nursing assessments, intervention development, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Ability to supervise and evaluate staff performance.
- Willingness to work mandatory overtime as required.
Responsibilities
- Provides nursing care for patients by following professional hospital and departmental standards to maintain quality care.
- Identifies and addresses patient needs by performing nursing assessments, developing nursing interventions, and participating in team meetings to facilitate discharge.
- Assumes charge nurse responsibility on a daily basis to provide continuity of care.
- Collaborates with Nurse Manager in supervision and evaluation of personnel.
- Supervises employees of a lesser grade by assigning tasks based on individual competencies and evaluating performance.
- Admits, transfers, and discharges patients, coordinating health care services to ensure continuity of care.
- Participates in inter-shift reports, meetings, and nursing rounds at the beginning and end of each shift to assess health care status and outcomes.
