About this role

At Mahaska Health, the Registered Medical Supply Nurse provides daily clinical support within Mahaska Health Sleep and Medical Supplies. This role includes coordinating and performing patient equipment setups, fittings, and education to ensure proper use of medical devices and supplies.

The nurse monitors patient adherence to prescribed therapies and conducts follow-up as needed to support compliance for reimbursement purposes. Troubleshooting equipment issues promotes optimal patient outcomes and satisfaction, with direct patient interaction in both clinical and retail-style supply settings.

Working collaboratively with providers and interdisciplinary teams, the nurse communicates pertinent patient status information in a timely manner. Duties also include delivering equipment to customers’ homes and other areas of the hospital and clinics, requiring a valid driver’s license and auto liability insurance.

This role offers the opportunity to develop expertise in durable medical equipment, from CPAP/BiPAP devices to mobility aids, while participating in quality monitoring and process improvement activities. The nurse stays current with Medicare, Medicaid, and insurance regulations as well as evolving medical equipment technology.

Requirements

Graduate from an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa (or able to work in Iowa).
Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification by American Heart Association standards.
Proof of completing Mandatory Reporter course at time of hire or within 6 months of start date.
Valid driver’s license and proof of good driving record.
Limited liability insurance with coverage of $100,000 each / $300,000 aggregate or $300,000 combined single limit.

Responsibilities

Provides patient education with proper fitting of equipment and supplies.
Reviews orders and medical records for medical necessity.
Communicates with providers and teams to provide appropriate equipment.
Directs patient interaction in both clinical and retail-style supply settings, including education on proper use, care, and maintenance of DME such as CPAP/BiPAP devices, oxygen equipment, and mobility aids.
Documents nursing interventions and patient responses, and establishes treatment priorities based on medical and nursing diagnosis.
Participates in billing for the department ensuring all documentation is present to meet Certificates of Medical Necessity and Assignment of Benefits for reimbursement.
Delivers equipment to customers’ homes and picks up equipment from other areas of the hospital and clinics.
Participates in quality monitoring and process improvement activities for DME and follows infection prevention policies.
