About this role

Mater is seeking a highly motivated Advanced Clinical Coder to join our Clinical Coding Services team on a permanent full-time basis. This role will code across all Mater locations and is based at Mater’s South Brisbane Campus. Due to recent staff movements, an exciting opportunity has opened up for a motivated and ambitious individual.

You will accurately assign specific morbidity and procedural classification to patient episodes to meet data reporting requirements. Code inpatient episodes in accordance with Australian Coding Standards and meet standards of coding accuracy with awareness of DRG assignment and funding impact. Identify unclear documentation and initiate coding queries while participating in audits and education.

Requirements

  • HIMAA Introductory/Intermediate Clinical Coding Course/Certificate IV in Clinical Classification (or equivalent)
  • Minimum five years (ideally full-time equivalent) experience working as a Clinical Coder
  • Up to date Clinical Coding knowledge using ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS
  • Experience using 3M Encoder
  • Strong organisation skills in planning, prioritising and managing workloads
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Understanding of private sector funding models (Desirable)

Responsibilities

  • Accurately assign specific morbidity and procedural classification to patient episodes to meet data reporting requirements
  • Code inpatient episodes in accordance with Australian Coding Standards
  • Meet standards of coding accuracy and awareness of DRG assignment and the impact on potential funding
  • Identify unclear or ambiguous documentation and initiate coding queries
  • Participate in coding audit, quality and education to expand coding skills
  • Apply the principles of confidentiality, privacy and security with the medical environment
