About this role

Provides administrative support to department or one or more physicians. Performs routine tasks such as typing correspondence, scheduling patient appointments for a limited number of physicians and business appointments. Requires intermediate knowledge of medical terminology and insurance information.

Greets, screens, and directs patients, visitors and internal customers. Performs secretarial/clerical duties including medical transcription, composition, and dictation. Prepares and processes correspondence and answers routine medical inquiries.

Performs medical receptionist duties including answering telephone, screening calls, taking messages, and providing information. Obtains, verifies, and updates patient information. Provides support services to patients, families, and medical staff.

May serve as a leader to lower level administrative staff. Utilizes the electronic system as documented in department and FPI standard operating procedures. Performs other duties as assigned in a team environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a medical office setting
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required
  • Accurate typing and data entry skills
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Basic knowledge of software used by department
  • Knowledge of general customer service practices
  • Ability to deal effectively and diplomatically with team members and public
