About this role
Children's Mercy seeks Staff Nurses for the Neonatology Follow-Up Clinic, providing follow-up services for NICU graduates with special health care needs related to growth and development. Registered nurses deliver illness management and health promotion using the nursing process and scientific principles. They ensure safe, high-quality, comprehensive, age-appropriate care for assigned patients.
Staff nurses develop and implement plans of care that promote optimal patient outcomes, meeting educational needs of patients and families while advocating for their needs. They coordinate patient care with nonprofessional personnel as necessary and maintain a safe, comfortable, efficient, family-centered environment. This role focuses on post-NICU home care support.

Requirements
- Associate's Degree (ADN) required
- Bachelor's Degree (BSN) preferred; required for nurses hired after September 1, 2013, with completion within 5 years of hire
- Licensed RN - Kansas or Registered Nurse Multistate License required upon hire
- Knowledge of scientific principles to provide safe, high quality, comprehensive, and age-appropriate nursing care
- Ability to use the nursing process for patient and family care
- Current employees hired before September 1, 2013 grandfathered for ADN in direct care role
Responsibilities
- Utilize the nursing process to develop and implement a safe, high quality, comprehensive, and age-appropriate plan of care for the patient and family that promotes optimal patient outcomes
- Provide illness management and health promotion for patients and families requiring care
- Meet the educational needs of the patient and family and advocate for their needs
- Maintain an environment that is safe, comfortable, efficient, and family-centered
- Coordinate patient care with nonprofessional personnel as necessary
- Utilize current research and evidence for practice to expand personal professional knowledge, enhance role performance, and improve nursing care quality
- Provide follow-up services for NICU graduates related to growth and development needs
