About this role
Performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states. Follows standardized procedures and helps prepare samples for testing. Analyzes test results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits.
Responsible for performing laboratory testing assigned to the department. Recognizes unusual test results and resolves discrepancies. Establishes work priorities and handles several procedures simultaneously, including troubleshooting instruments and other problems.
Maintains excellent communication with the Department and other Laboratory Services personnel. Works as a regular employee in the CFC PC Lab CC environment. Operates in a clinical lab setting focused on patient care support.
Maintains knowledge of all current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) required to work effectively. Develops, drafts, revises SOPs, training documents, validation/verification plans, test cases, and validation/verification summaries. Supports ongoing lab operations and quality assurance.
Requirements
- Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) or equivalent
- Certification must be obtained within the first year of employment if not already certified
- Ability to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting continuously
- Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs
- Good finger dexterity and perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders
- Qualified physically for respirator use initially and as required
- Maintain 20/40 vision corrected and work in a latex safe environment
