About this role

Canadian Blood Services seeks a Regular full-time Medical Laboratory Technologist to join the dynamic Medical Laboratory & Stem Cell Services team. In this role, perform accessioning, testing, interpreting, and reporting of all results. Manage blood and blood component inventory, handle post-production processing, and prepare reagents and equipment for daily use. Follow Canadian Blood Services Operating Procedures and manufacturer instructions.

The team supports routine testing and relevant lab duties in a hospital-focused environment. Assist internal and external customers using excellent service skills. Participate in ongoing quality improvement activities with superior interpersonal communication.

Maintain technical competency and promote continuous learning. Perform routine maintenance and verification of equipment to meet regulatory requirements. Record all testing-related quality control and assurance activities.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved Medical Laboratory Technology training program
  • CSMLS certification or eligibility for certification
  • Current CMLTO registration or eligible to obtain registration
  • Experience in antibody investigations and blood group discrepancies
  • Knowledge or experience in a laboratory setting
  • General knowledge of hospital and various laboratory procedures
  • Proficiency in serological testing procedures

Responsibilities

  • Accession, test, interpret, and report all results
  • Manage blood and blood component inventory
  • Perform post-production component processing
  • Prepare reagents and equipment for daily use
  • Perform blood grouping, phenotype testing, antibody screening, and antibody identification
  • Conduct adsorptions, elutions, titrations, and specialized serological procedures including genotyping
  • Perform routine maintenance and verification of laboratory equipment
  • Perform and record all testing-related quality control and assurance activities
