About this role
Children's Nebraska seeks a Clinic Registered Nurse (RN) to deliver specialized pediatric care through the Specialty Outreach program. This casual role operates on an as-needed basis with Monday-Friday day hours in Lincoln. The position focuses on coordinating nursing care for children using established clinical practice guidelines and hospital protocols.
Daily work centers on conducting holistic age-specific assessments that capture physical, mental, developmental, emotional and social data. Nurses document findings, evaluate outcomes, and ensure all chart elements meet 95 percent JCAHO and organizational standards. Follow-up on labs and tests occurs within 48 hours while teaching is recorded on the FER.
The nurse supports providers by gathering concise patient information and maintaining clinic workflow. Effective delegation and timely communication with families and other disciplines keep visits on schedule. Cultural, cognitive and emotional factors are considered when preparing families for care and procedures.

Requirements
- Current RN license and demonstrated competency in pediatric assessment
- Ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patients' needs and growth and development
- Proficiency in documentation that meets JCAHO and organizational standards
- Skill in delegating tasks and facilitating timely communication across healthcare disciplines
- Experience performing procedures and tasks specific to ambulatory pediatric clinics
Responsibilities
- Conduct holistic age-specific patient/family assessments upon visit according to defined standards and CPGs
- Collect and document data related to patient physical, mental, developmental, emotional and social condition
- Perform chart audits to meet 95 percent JCAHO and organizational expectations including FER and pain assessment
- Follow up on tests and lab results thoroughly within established time frames, returning calls the same business day
- Gather patient information in a timely, concise manner and convey it to the MD to maintain clinic workflow
- Perform special tasks and procedures within RN scope unique to ambulatory care clinics including database entry and scheduling
- Communicate plan of care to patient/family and identify need for MD involvement or change in plan of care
