About this role

The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care to residents in accordance with required medical care and professional nursing practice. This role supervises the activities and provides direction to the Registered Practical Nurses and Personal Support Workers.

In collaboration with the Director of Care, the RN implements AgeCare policies and procedures on the neighbourhood. The nurse liaises with physicians and other members of the health care team, immediately notifying the physician of any significant changes in resident status.

Daily work includes coordinating nursing services, leading shift reports, recording changes in residents’ condition, and reviewing physician orders. The RN ensures medications are administered as per residence procedures and provides first aid to staff when necessary.

Requirements

  • Sound knowledge and background in geriatric, rehabilitation or long-term care nursing including activation, nursing, and personnel administration.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Knowledge of the Fixing Long-Term Care Act and Regulations, Health Disciplines Act, Occupation Health and Safety Act, Pharmacy Act, and related federal and provincial statutes.
  • Registration and membership in good standing with provincial registry.

Responsibilities

  • Implement AgeCare policies and procedures on the neighbourhood in collaboration with the Director of Care.
  • Liaise with physicians and other members of the health care team, immediately notifying the physician of significant changes in resident status.
  • Coordinate nursing and other services for residents within the neighbourhood.
  • Provide supervision and direction to the Registered Practical Nurses and Personal Support Workers.
  • Lead shift report with members of the health care team, ensuring all team members are informed of changes in residents’ status.
  • Record significant changes in residents’ condition and ensure documentation adheres to AgeCare policies and Provincial College of Nurses Standards of Practice.
  • Review and process physician orders as per procedure and administer medications and treatments to residents.
  • Provide first aid to staff members when necessary and ensure completion of Employee Incident Reports.
