About this role
Reporting to the National Director of Nutritional Care and Culinary Services, the Registered Dietitian Consultant will collaborate with operational leaders across Long-Term Care Homes and Retirement communities to promote clinical and operational excellence. This 12-month contract focuses on improving interprofessional clinical practices and quality outcomes through education, training, and data-driven initiatives.
Approximately 80% of the role will be spent on-site within assigned facilities, where you will support resident safety processes, conduct chart audits, and lead root cause analyses. You will also design and deliver interprofessional education to optimize nutrition and food service practices, tailoring training to diverse learning needs using adult education techniques.
You will work closely with the Corporate Quality & Risk team and other departments to develop care standards, best practices, and continuous learning opportunities. The consultant fosters a just safety culture by promoting psychological safety and non-punitive learning while mentoring staff and leaders on policies and regulatory standards.
This position offers the chance to identify and co-develop quality improvement initiatives focused on food and nutrition services, aligning with strategic priorities. With travel across Ontario, Alberta, or Manitoba as needed, you will drive performance excellence and enhance the dining experience for residents.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in Dietetics (with internship) or a Master’s in Dietetics; a Master’s in a related field is preferred.
- Member in good standing with a provincial regulatory college.
- 3–5 years of progressive experience, preferably in Long-Term Care Homes or Retirement Communities.
- Proficiency in quality improvement methodologies, project coordination, and change management.
- Experience with Health Information Systems (e.g., PointClickCare) is an asset.
- Skilled in data analysis and applying legislative, regulatory, and quality assurance frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement nutrition standards of care aligned with best practices, professional regulations, and relevant legislation.
- Support resident safety processes including chart audits, staff interviews, root cause analyses, risk trend assessments, and action plan implementation.
- Design and deliver interprofessional education and training to optimize nutrition and food service practices.
- Foster a culture of continuous quality improvement by sharing best practices and providing guidance.
- Train and mentor staff and leaders on policies, standard operating procedures, and regulatory standards.
- Identify and co-develop quality improvement initiatives focused on food and nutrition services.
- Provide operational guidance on enhancing the dining experience, including menu planning, product evaluation, and cost optimization.
- Monitor quality, safety, and risk management practices to ensure adherence to frameworks.
