About this role
The CMO leads clinical operations, ensures quality and safety of patient care, and aligns medical staff activities with hospital strategic goals. As chief administrative leader, responsible for clinical quality and oversight of medical staff members. Participates on senior management team for strategic planning, budgeting, and committees.
Works collaboratively with Chief Nursing Officer to advance patient care delivery. Enhances clinical operations across Kent Hospital, CNE enterprise, and externally for better patient and clinician experience. Strengthens culture of clinical excellence, quality, inclusion, and equity.
Directs clinical functions through department chiefs, ensuring evidence-based medicine and interdepartmental collaboration. Coordinates with chiefs to resolve conflicts between medical staff and administration. Oversees compliance with medical staff Bylaws, hospital policies, and regulatory standards including Joint Commission.
Manages peer review, OPPE, FPPE, and Credentials Committee including application reviews and appeal hearings. Integrates quality assurance, disease management, and utilization review for highest treatment standards. Fosters hospital throughput and continuing medical education programs.
Collaborates on graduate medical education compliance with ACGME standards. Develops clinical information systems for data utilization and physician feedback. Engages physicians through recruitment support and satisfaction programs, attends key meetings, and supports emergency response.
Requirements
- MD or DO degree from accredited medical school
- Board certification in relevant medical specialty
- Active medical license eligible for hospital privileges
- Demonstrated leadership in clinical operations and medical staff oversight
- In-depth knowledge of Joint Commission standards and regulatory requirements
- Experience with peer review processes, OPPE, and FPPE
- Familiarity with ACGME standards for graduate medical education
- Proven ability to align clinical activities with organizational strategic goals
Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with Chief Nursing Officer to advance delivery of care for patients
- Strengthen and reinforce a culture of clinical excellence, quality, inclusion, and equity
- Direct and coordinate clinical functions through chiefs of clinical departments ensuring adherence to evidence-based medicine
- Coordinate with Departmental Chiefs to investigate and resolve problems and conflicts
- Oversee medical staff compliance with Bylaws, policies of Kent Hospital and Care New England, and regulatory agencies including Joint Commission
- Oversee medical staff peer review, OPPE, and FPPE
- Oversee hospital Credentials Committee including review of applications and participation in appeal hearings
- Integrate, monitor, and evaluate quality assurance, disease management, and utilization review activities
