About this role
The Hospitalist Physician provides medical care as the attending of record for adult inpatients minimum age 18 presenting with primary internal medicine pathology. Services are provided twenty-four hours daily all days of the year. The physician responds to admission requests and assumes care upon transfer from the Emergency Department or direct admission from outside facilities per medical staff bylaws.
Shifts are generally ten to eleven hours in duration with a minimum of 166 annual shifts. Options include a 7-day rotation schedule or flex scheduling. Physicians rotate between Bend and Redmond hospitals for coverage needs, with possible additional outreach locations.
The SCMG Hospitalist Program addresses diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of hospitalized patients referred from community primary care, emergency room, or other hospital physicians. Hospitalists provide 24-hour coverage for Medicine and Critical Care patients in admitting and consultative roles per Co-Management Agreements. Coverage extends to inpatient psychiatric and medically complex rehabilitation patients when requested.
Maintain credentialing and privileges for critical care procedures to rotate equitably across sites. Keep medical knowledge current through regular continuing medical education activity. Abide by all medical staff bylaws, rules, and regulations while sharing information proactively.
Requirements
- Ability to provide inpatient medical care for adult patients with internal medicine pathology
- Credentialed and privileged to perform critical care procedures
- Familiarity with SCMG organization structure, communication systems, and billing processes
- Current medical knowledge and skills through regular continuing medical education activity
- Compliance with all medical staff bylaws, rules, and regulations
- Punctual presence for assigned work days per SCHS attendance policy
- Board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine typical for hospitalist role
- Active state medical license and DEA registration for practice in Oregon
Responsibilities
- Provide 24-hour coverage of all Medicine patients on Bend campus in admitting and consultative roles per Co-Management Agreements
- Provide 24-hour coverage of all Medicine and Critical Care patients at Redmond campus in admitting and consultative roles
- Serve as Consultant for inpatient psychiatric patients in PES or Sageview when requested by primary service
- Serve as Consultant for medically complex patients in Inpatient Rehabilitation
- Share in equitable distribution of work between all hospitalist physicians on shift
- Maintain credentialing and privileges to perform critical care procedures and rotate through St. Charles-Redmond hospital
- Maintain familiarity with SCMG organization structure, communication systems, billing process, and complete documentation within assigned time
